Brody's #5 Birthday...A Pirate Party!

Brody has never really had a "Friend" birthday party before. We are usually traveling to see family around his Birthday, since it's so close to Christmas. But, since we decided to stay home this year...he made a list...a long list...of friends he wanted to invite. He ended up having 9 kiddos show up + our 4 = 13 kids having a blast!!! And he wanted a pirate party. So first we made hooks and eye patches. Then we had dinner. After dinner we played pin the parrot on the pirate.
Then we did presents and after all the wrapping paper and toys were picked up (thanks to uncle Brad), we embarked on a pirate treasure hunt. I looked online and found a ton of "pirate talk"....so using all the pirate terms I made clues and a map for the kids to hunt down their treasure. It was pretty fun.

Teagan, of course, was a big helper...being the oldest one there.
At the end of their hunt...they found these little treasure chests...for each kid. (These were just made out of paper bags, that I cut and folded to look like chests. The drawing of the "wood" took FOREVER, but I thought they turned out pretty cute.) And I just put gold coins, necklaces, rings, candy, etc inside for their treasure.
Last of all was Birthday cake and ice cream. This cake was one of the easiest that I've done lately. And Brody LOVED it! John helped by printing off sails and a pirate flag for me. And I opened 2 of Brody's presents early to retrieve the pirates and treasure chest.

Christmas 2011

We always think we're going to have a slim Christmas...but some how our living room is always full with gifts under our tree come Christmas morning. I kinda shop during the year and shove things in my closet...never remembering just how much I have until it's all wrapped and under the tree. Santa's gifts always add to it as well. And Santa pleased the kiddos with a Wii this year. Woohoo!
We forgot to make cookies for Santa...so last minute I borrowed some from a plate of goodies a friend had brought to us. Phew!
Someday we will have a mantle to hang our stockings on. But for now, they are cozy on the couch.
This is the only picture I took of the kids. *sigh* But, we did have the video camera going. It was a wonderful Christmas. And a first in a Looooong time that we actually stayed home. Nice, mellow, somewhat-quiet, happy Christmas.

Gingerbread Houses

Someone gave me the awesome idea of saving some Halloween candy for making gingerbread houses. So I saved a baggie of Dots, Skittles, Starbursts, M&Ms, etc. and we had the kids make their own gingerbread houses with graham crackers. They loved it.
Liam supervised and was the candy taster.
This cute girl had a little construction help from Mommy....but basically did it by herself.

This is how I found Kamryn's house 2 days later. Apparently a tornado blew through and stripped all the candy and shot the tree right through the house!
Brody was ready to eat his right away. Love his face!
Teagan made this all on his own. He's growing up way faster than I could have imagined.

Kamryn's #3 Birthday!!!

Kamryn wanted a princess castle cake. This is what I came up with. I thought it turned out cute and Kamryn LOVED it...so I was happy.

We had several friends over for presents, cake, and ice cream. It made Kamryn's day to have her friends there, especially Kaitlyn. This teenage girl is a FAVORITE of Kamryn's...and pretty much worthy of her admiration. I'll be more than pleased if Kamryn turns out to be the kind of young woman that Kaitlyn is.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl! We love you oh so much...and you make our days bright and joyful!

Day 4 & 5

Our last 2 days we spent hopping back and forth between the parks, riding favorites rides multiple times, and trying REALLY hard to find Belle for Kamryn and to get Brody in the Jedi Training Academy.
We went on the Jungle Safari ride...I don't know how many times. It's great in the dark, by the way.
I look plastic...but it's just a mixture between a lot of sun, sweat, and flash.
John did all the spin-around-make-me-sick rides with the kids.
We also went on the Little Mermaid ride a ton. Kamryn and Liam loved it and the rest of us loved the cool temperatures inside.
So, we tried for 5 days to find Belle, from Beauty and the Beast...Kamryn's favorite princess.
We failed.
John would ask the character workers and nobody could seem to tell us a good time/place to find her. Needless to say, Kamryn has moved on. Sure, she still plays with her princess dolls....but since Belle didn't give her time to Kamryn, Kamryn has a new best friend, Aurora, from Sleeping Beauty.

Pretty sure I would not have cared about the princesses at her age (or really ever), but Kamryn loves her princesses and still can not get over the fact that she got to meet a bunch of them in person.

Brody almost gave up on his dream too. We tried 4 times to get him into the Jedi Training Academy. Teagan was chosen the first time...Kamryn was chosen the 2nd time, but denied because she was too young...and finally after being disappointed 3 times, Brody didn't want to try again. But, he has stubborn parents. So I made him 2 signs to hold up. "PICK ME!" and "I'M CUTE!" So, with him holding the signs and John holding Brody up in the air....he was finally chosen!!! Brody was sooo excited and I was almost on the verge of tears, because he wanted it so bad.
He really didn't need the training, however.
He received a lot of attention from the trainers, but he KNEW exactly what to do.
Brody took on Darth Vader and was triumphant.
We had so much fun during our week in California. We were exhausted and broke by the time we left, but we created a ton of memories...and the kids couldn't have been happier. So glad we were able to take this family vacation together. I think we'll try it in another 5 years...minus diapers, strollers, and me constantly scanning a gazillion people to make sure I have my little munchins nearby.

California Adventure - Day 3

Our 3rd day was spent mostly at California Adventure. We saw a few characters, which made Kamryn's day, and we also went on some fun rides. John and I each took turns taking Brody and Teagan on The Tower Of Terror....which was fun and freaky at the same time. I took Brody and his face was priceless....definitely full of terror. But then both said they loved the ride and claimed it as one of their favorites.

Seriously, Kamryn could spend all day with the characters. So fun to watch the kids' eyes sparkle at all the fun, new things.Here she is again....hugging a stranger.

We took a little break and went to a kid's show. It had a bunch of the Disney Junior characters and our kids, especially Brody, really seemed to enjoy it. It was musical, interactive, and kept us out of the heat for a bit.

Disneyland - Day 2

Teagan was extremely excited to be chosen to go through the Jedi Training Academy.
He learned some new moves and was able to try them out on Darth Maul.
Teagan defeated him, of course.

So serious. Jedi Training was definitely a highlight of our trip.
Kamryn and Tinkerbell. I think we waited in this line for over 45 minutes. But hey...Kamryn could care less about everything else....she only wanted to see the princesses.

Disneyland - Day 1

Liam was oh-so-tired from traveling that I don't think he was quite ready for the big day ahead of him.
Goofy was the first character we saw. John made the kids autograph books, so meeting the characters quickly became a favorite thing to do in the park...especially for Kamryn.
I'm sure Minnie Mouse appreciated the leg hug.

We were able to have all of John's family with us for the first 2 days of our trip. For dinner our first night we were able to visit Goofy's Kitchen. It was a dining with the characters sort of experience and everyone had a great time. And the food was delicious!

Pre-Disney

Gassing up before heading to California. They all seem super excited, huh. Well....at least Brody does.
Instead of spending a gazillion $$$ at the Park, John made a trip to the D.I. and picked up stuffed animals, t-shirts, and a princess backpack for a total of $20. We laid them out in our room before the kiddos went in and surprised them. They were really happy and didn't even know the difference!

Preschool Field Trip

Liam, Kamryn, and I were lucky enough to join Brody's preschool on their very first field trip. We went to a farm where we were able to take a tractor ride to a pumpkin patch, choose our own pumpkins, and then enjoy the slides, rides, etc. Poor Liam spent most of the time in the stroller, but he didn't really complain...especially since he was able to snack on red frosted cookies.

Back To School

This is kind of late...but I still wanted to post it. Brody has started preschool and LOVES IT! He is doing well and even behaves!
Love this goofy boy.
Teagan is in 2nd grade this year and is also doing really well. His behavior has gotten better since last year and is, of course, a really smart kiddo.
Since Teagan is in school and Brody is in preschool for a few hours each week, I have only Kamryn and Liam alone while the big boys are gone. As hard as it is to have the kids growing up...I'm kind of liking the refereeing break now and again.

Soccer Season

Soccer season is upon us again. And Brody is old enough to play on a team this year. He has seriously been so excited about this. Teagan's team is the Tigers. He is the orange one crouched down in the picture. Teagan is doing really well and has scored a couple of goals already.
Brody is usually the smallest kid in a group of his peers....but, he is the only boy on his soccer team that has his knees showing. So, amazingly enough, not the smallest. Brody's team is the Red Fire. This picture was taken right before he scored a goal. He has done really well and has scored goals each week. In fact, his last game he scored 3 goals in like 3 minutes. Pretty cool kid. I'm glad the boys are loving sports and we know we're blessed to be able to participate in so many healthy activities.

Some Firsts

One day I was in our basement working on some cub scout stuff and I kept hearing little feet running upstairs and a lot of giggling. I figured the kids were happy and getting along that I could finish my work. When I returned upstairs, I found the freezer and refrigerator doors wide open.....with completely empty shelves. Instead of flipping out....I quietly sent Brody and Kamryn to their rooms, so I could smile to myself and take pictures. We discussed why this was not the best idea and I had them help me put everything back. Amazingly enough....nothing spilled on my couches. Although, a small jar of yeast was spread all over the floor.....but not bad, considering what could have happened. This was a first...and hopefully a last.

My mom was able to drive home with us from WA...so nice. We decided to extend our trip by a day and head to Bozeman, MT first...to see my baby sister, Charlotte. Cute boys....this is how I found them when I woke up at the hotel.
Charlotte took us on a hike to see this beautiful waterfall.
It was so nice to get up in the mountains....
...especially with this cool aunt as our guide......
...and to breathe in the fresh mountain air. Loved it.

Of course, the kids loved it too.
Thanks Charlotte...and Bozeman, we could definitely grow to love you.

We were lucky enough to spend some good quality time in Washington with family. There is so much to enjoy in a small town, believe it or not. Gma and Papa Larry's is always a fun place for the kids. S'mores evidence.
I think Teagan ate like 3 huge S'mores. He's seriously a bottomless pit these days.

And amazingly enough...they love them right back.

Cuddling cousins. I couldn't believe how well Teagan and Ryan got along and Brody and Sophie got along. So nice.
Liam grew very attached to his Gma too.

We had some not so good days....with bumps, bruises.....
....and big scrapes. But, it didn't slow them down for long.

We were able to spend a fun, hot day at Lagoon with Gma, for John's work party. Of course, fun was had by all....we were exhausted when we got home....but 10 hours at Lagoon will do that to a person.

10th Wedding Anniversary

10 years ago we spent our wedding night at the Coeur d'Alene Resort.....so John planned a little night away from the kiddos at a B&B in Coeur d'Alene for our anniversary. It was fun going back and having some quiet time together. Thanks JB and Nancy for taking care of our sweet kiddos. And thanks John for 10 wonderful years!

Happy Birthday Teagan!!!
Teagan is now 7 years old!!!! And he was super excited to finally get a fish tank and fish...and a crab. (Thanks to our neighbors for the hand-me-down tank!!) The morning after getting the tank up and running with the fish inside...the little gray colored one was already dead. And then a couple days later....the crab caught one of the gold fish and well...speared it with his giant claw and used his little claw to pick, pull at and eat with. Kinda creepy. So we got Teagan one more fish. So now he has: Big Gill, Goldie, Diver, and Sharp Claw (the crab of course).

Teagan had asked for a turtle cake...and I did my very best to make one for him. He was soooo excited when he first saw it......he made the best face and then said, "Thank you, Mom!!"......and gave me a big hug. You're welcome Teagan. And THANK YOU for being our most awesomest 1st son.

Memorial Day Weekend

We were lucky enough to be able to find some time to spend on the family ranch over the weekend. We all really enjoyed ourselves. It's so nice to get some fresh air and get a little dirty...all while visiting Gma and Papa at the same time. It was incredibly windy the entire weekend...but it didn't stop us, although it took Liam's breath away a few times.
All of our kiddos love animals. And Liam is no different. This calf, April, spent a lot of time at the ranch house with Gma and Papa....so, she thinks she is a pet and loves attention.
The kids were able to ride the horses....which they love. Brody was a little scared/nervous at first...and giggled nervously throughout his rides. But it was so cute.
Note to Brody-------Mommy has never really been a fan of horses, so I think you are AWESOME for even doing it!
Aunt Kati helped with the horse rides. She is so special to my kids. They love her.
Brody the Super Cowboy...cape and all.
Teagan did his part to help too.
Teagan was so excited to visit the ranch. He even wore his super tight Wrangler jeans. (At the end of the day....mom and Teagan both decided that it would be the last day for the jeans, until they are passed down to Brody. I told him when they are hurting your privates, they are too tight.)
So happy. Just where he wanted to be.

This girl has no fear. She was practically on a horse before I even got out of the car. So glad that my kids can experience these things.
Kamryn loves her daddy. And I loved watching John walk the kids around on the horses. I had such sweet, content feelings during our time with the horse rides. We are truly blessed and I am so grateful for my husband and beautiful, healthy children.
We are also blessed to have Gma. The kids love her to death and talk about her all the time. She is one of those Gmas that will play and play and play with the kids. Anything to spend time with them. She'll even volunteer to change a stinky diaper to spend time with them. We're lucky to have her.
As we were driving out to see the horses, Teagan said, "I've always been a cowboy." It was so cute.

At the ranch we stayed in the camping trailer. It was nice to be loud and obnoxious and to have a little space of our own at the end of the day. And the kids thought it was soooo cool.
The 3 older kids slept on the bunks and had such fun doing so.
Kamryn's favorite part of the trailer was probably looking at herself in the mirror. I caught her several times making faces, looking at her teeth, or flipping her hair around. It was pretty funny.

So, we were able to enjoy time at the ranch and also see John's Gma and Great Aunt Leathra. We also had time at the cemetary where John's baby sister, Gpa, and other relatives are buried. All in all.....it was an awesome weekend.

U2 and The Fray

I was soooo excited to get a call from our local radio station (99.5) telling me that I won tickets to the U2 concert and tailgate party. John and I were kind of loners at the tailgate party, but hey--they fed us. :o) But more than anything...we were able to go to the concert!!!
The concert was AWESOME! And John even started moving a little towards the end.
All of the aging men in U2 are VERY good looking and well, also talented.
Ahhhh...I cannot tell you how sweet this was for me.
Someone really got their Geek on because the show had all sorts of amazing technical aspects. I'm not sure if 'aspects' is the right word...but you know what I mean.
Classic Bono.
I'm really trying to hold my gigantic smile in.
And The Fray... they also did not disappoint. So much fun....AWESOME concert!

I really can't believe my baby is already 1!!!!! Gma and Papa came up for a quick birthday visit...which the kids always love. This pic is of Papa and the older kiddos enjoying a movie and apples. The kids kinda like their papa....can you tell?
Oh-happy boy with his birthday gifts. We actually had a BBQ and cake earlier in the day...but after Liam dug into his cake...he had had enough and took a nap before opening his presents. And I only have the 'eating of the cake' on video...and I'm not sure how to put it on here...so let's just say, he enjoyed it.

Mother's Day

John actually gave me these flowers the day before Mother's Day. He is redoing our front yard and therefore tearing everything up. So, in the middle of all of his hard work, he picked a few of our tulips and put them in a vase just for me.
And even though we were all sick on Mother's Day...John still made me the most delicious breakfast. Poppy seed crepes with strawberries and cream and raspberry-lemon muffins. Yes, I married well.

Kamryn could not wait to go out for our annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Aunt Kati helped Liam in his quest for eggs.
And she's off!
The boys, of course, also love looking for eggs. We missed one, but Teagan found it a couple weeks later...and said that him and Brody shared the chocolate inside. ;o)

Lucky kiddos with their buckets full of surprises. Liam is the only one looking and smiling at the camera....and he didn't even have a bucket.
A few days before Easter we had some friends over for a messy peanut butter bird feeder craft. Fun, fun! The kids had no problem cleaning-licking up their fingers after they were finished.

March Round-Up

Tears, Talent, and Teeth

Things can get a little rough at our house with all the crazy boys (although Kamryn can hold her own).

Teagan had a big part in his class performance for Literacy Night at school. (And yes, Kamryn snuck her way up there and hung out for a few minutes until Mom gave Dad the eye and he took her out of the spotlight.)

This is a new favorite activity to gets the wiggles out before bedtime at our house. Brody is not quite tall enough for Teagan's technique and Kamryn is not quite tall enough for Brody's technique. But Kamryn enjoys risking her life by running underneath her big bros as they do their thing.

Children's Museum

My sister's family gave us a year pass to a children's museum near us for Christmas. What a great gift!!! The kids loved it and Brody made a great doctor, Teagan a great scientist and Kamryn....well, she helped too.

Our first trip aunt Kati and uncle Brad joined us.....and boy was I glad they did. I guess there are no strollers allowed inside, so we had to carry Liam the whole time. Imagine me carrying him and chasing after the other 3 the entire time. Eeeeek!

(I'm not sure if he was supposed to be climbing on these things. Hmmmm.)

New Years

For New Years Eve we put on our leather pants, sparkly glitter make up, ratted our hair, and rocked out at my bro Tony's house. The kids tried destroying the rest of the house while us "grown ups" pretended to be rock stars for 4 hours. When midnight came....no, we did not keep rocking. I guess we're too old, because we all went our separate ways and zonked out. But, it was fun while it lasted.

Brody is 4! Can you believe it?!?! He couldn't decide on what kind of cake he wanted. He mention a house and he also mentioned a balloon cake...and about a gazillion other things. So, we decided to surprise him with the house from the movie "Up." With dum-dum suckers for balloons. I had a blast making it and best of all, Brody loved it!!

Early Christmas

We celebrated an early Christmas with the kids, because we took a trip to WA for the 25th. John pieced together a computer for the kids....which Teagan thought was pretty cool.
One of Brody's favorite gifts was a bike from his cousin Eli and Gma & Gpa Langston.
Kamryn loved every single thing she opened.....and loves posing with her gifts.

These pumpkins changed several times....but these were the first "scary" faces. Love the little plastic parts. So easy and no mess to clean up. And interchangeable!

Believe it or not, Kamryn is 2!!! We celebrated with our neighbors, Gma & Gpa, and aunt Kati & uncle Brad....a good group of some of Kamryn's favorite people. Teagan and Brody obviously thought she needed a little help with her gifts.
Daddy printed some little princesses off of the computer and mommy cut them out for the cupcakes. (Sooo easy and cheap!)

The kiddos had a great time when their cousins came from WA to visit. We loved having them.
My bro, Tony, tried feeding Teagan to the T-Rex. Teagan freaked out.

Soccer

Teagan was able to play soccer this year and has LOVED it! He gets so excited even for his practices on Tuesdays and even more for his games on Saturdays. He works really hard and is a pretty good little player. Teagan's team decided to name themselves The Komodo Dragons. The best part of the games is watching the little teams all run around after the ball. They all run in a big clump. :o) But they are getting better and even scored their first goal this last week.

No....Elmo didn't drown....he just received a complimentary swirley from Kamryn. He'll survive....but not sure his 'tickle me' parts will ever work again....he does need to be washed, afterall.

Kamryn finally stopped throwing her "I'm freaking tired" fit and enjoyed the fireworks. Even baby Liam stopped to enjoy them as well. My bro Tony (with my john-john's help) put on an excellent firework display for the community....but I, of course, didn't get pics of them.

Discovery Gateway Children's Museum

A friend of ours came up with some free family passes for a day at the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum. So a week before they expired, we decided to ride the Front Runner down to SLC and enjoy the afternoon at the museum. The pictures really say it all. The kids loved it! And we even went to one of mommy & daddy's favorite places for dinner - PF Chang's. The boys also especially loved the train ride down and back - can't believe I forgot to take pictures of that!!!

Brody could have stayed all day at the little grocery store area. He would fill up his basket with yummy plastic food, pretend to pay for it at the cash register, then put it back on the shelves again. He did this over and over. Ok, since Brody wasn't thrilled with the 'grown-up' birthday cakes we had in WA, we decided to have a little party with John's parents and Aunt Kati and Brad. Brody had wanted a dinosaur cake, but it turned into a last minute castle cake with dragons. This TOTALLY worked for Brody. He loved it. Phew!
We still had Gma and Gpa's birthday present to Brody stashed in the closet, so he was able to open while they were visiting.
Kamryn loved it as well....we were not sure that she was going to share.

We spent New Years with Papa Nick and Lola in Spokane. The boys had a blast and we all braved the weather and had a great time!
Papa Nick got the boys lightsabers...which were a huge hit! And they made knight helmets out of milk jugs. Too fun!

Beginnings of Winter

This was our first good snow. And the boys really went to town.
There was no prompting from mom in their ideas of snow play. They knew exactly what to do.
Kamryn sitting on our ornament box really interested in our Christmas tree. She sat there for a good hour....looking at the lights, trying to touch the ornaments and beads, and enjoying it to pieces.
